The type of cosmetic eye surgery we have are bring negligence claims in respect of are:
1. LASER EYE SURGERY
a. LASIK eye surgery
With Laser eye procedures such as LASIK & SMILE, we have clients who now suffer from chronic eye pain – this is called Corneal Neuralgia
As part of the process of reshaping the eye the laser damages / destroys nerves in the eyes.
The ophthalmologist is hoping that these nerves will grow back after the
operation. Sometimes the nerves do not grow back resulting in the patient suffering chronic eye pain for the rest of their life.
The eye pain is often at a level that the patient can no longer cope with working or other everyday activities, the effect on the patient/client is catastrophic in that virtually every aspect of their life is adversely affected.

b. SMILE

2. REFRACTIVE LENS EXCHANGE
This type of surgery is sometimes provided for non-cosmetic reasons such as the treatment of cataracts.
The surgery can also be provided for cosmetic reasons.
3. PHAKIC INTRAOCULAR LENSES
These are implants that are placed on top of the natural lens of your eye.
We have settled and are dealing with claims where, due to lack of monitoring, the number of endothelial cells in the client’s eyes has dropped to critical levels resulting in their sight being catastrophically impaired resulting in life-changing symptoms.
IN RESPECT OF REFRACTIVE LENS EXCHANGE & PHAKIC INTRAOCULAR LENSES – WERE YOU ADVISED TO AGREE TO MULTIFOCAL LENSES INSTEAD OF MONOFOCAL LENSES AND ARE NOW STRUGGLING WITH THE MULTIFOCAL LENSES OR HAVE HAD TO HAVE THEM REMOVED AND YOUR VISION IS NOW WORSE.
